OpenLink Multi-Tier drivers feature a Generic Driver installed on the client, a Request Broker and Database Agent installed on the server, and use OpenLink Database Independent Networking. They have been developed with enterprise-wide deployment in mind and feature enhancements in areas such as performance, security and configuration management. Remote connections to supported database engines takes place via our High-Performance Database Independent Networking Middleware, or alternatively via the relevant Database Engine Vendor's Database Specific Networking Middleware (Net8, SQL*Net, I-Connect, I-Net, Ingres Net, Open Client, Progress Client Networking etc.) Data Access Mechanisms include:
LICENSINGOur Multi-Tier data access drivers are licensed by implementation architecture: CLIENT-SERVER LICENSINGClient-Server licensing is based on concurrent client/desktop machine connections to a database server. Our client components are installed on each client/desktop machine that requires remote or local database connectivity. Concurrent Connections equates to concurrent client connections and concurrent database sessions. For example if you purchase a 5 users you have a license for 5 concurrent client connections sharing a pool of 5 concurrent database sessions. Thus, you can install the generic client components on an unlimited number of desktop/workstation machines and only be restricted by the size of your concurrent database sessions (connections) pool. This licensing model only applies to the following operating systems:
If your concurrent usage requirements grow and eventually exceed your initial license pool all you need to do is acquire an upgrade to your existing license (no additional software required as long as versions of the client or server components aren't being upgraded)

APPLICATION or WEB SERVER LICENSINGApplication or Web Server licensing is based on concurrent database sessions per application / web server per CPU. In this license scenario our client components are installed on an Application/Web Server machine (or host) as opposed to a client/desktop/workstation machine. This licensing model applies to application servers acting as ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, or OLE DB clients (e.g. Web/Application Servers, and any other applications that make pooled or single ODBC/JDBC/ADO.NET/OLE DB connections that directly or indirectly serve several users.)
