OpenLink Single-Tier format drivers (aka Lite) conform to the common perception of how ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, and OLE DB drivers are configured. They are installed on the client, customized to a particular database, and use the database vendor's networking middleware to connect to remote databases. Data Access Mechanisms include:
Remote connections are only achievable via the relevant database engine vendor databse specific networking middleware e.g. (Net8, SQL*Net, I-Connect, I-Net, Ingres Net, Open Client, Progress Client Networking etc.). You must acquire these independently from the relevant database vendor prior to using our Single-Tier Drivers. LICENSINGThe OpenLink Single-Tier drivers are licensed by implementation architecture: Each format is packaged as either a Suite or a Driver-specific product CLIENT-SERVER LICENSINGThe Single-Tier client-server licensing model applies to traditional client-server computing infrastructures in which these drivers are installed on a per PC basis. This licensing model only applies to the following operating systems: Windows (95/98/NT/2000/XP Standard and Professional Editions only. This doesn't apply to NT/2000/XP/2003 Server Editions which are licensed under the Application / Web Server model) Mac OS X and Mac OS Classic (note this doesn't apply Mac OS X Server Edition which is licensed under the Application / Web Server model ). Linux (standard and professional editions of the various distributions; SuSE, RedHat, Mandrake etc. But not including any Enterprise Editions of these distributions). The unit cost is based on number of users and database sessions: Example 1: Example 2: Example 3:

APPLICATION or WEB SERVER LICENSINGApplication or Web Server licensing is based on concurrent database sessions per application / web server per CPU. In this license scenario our client components are installed on an Application/Web Server machine (or host) as opposed to a client/desktop/workstation machine. This licensing model applies to application servers acting as ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, or OLE DB clients (e.g. Web/Application Servers, and any other applications that make pooled or single ODBC/JDBC/ADO.NET/OLE DB connections that directly or indirectly serve several users.)
