"Free 30-Day Trial": Virtuoso Enterprise Edition client-and-server bundles in Finder-style columns (operating system > platform > version, 7 and later), then details and the license generator's link (virtuoso-generate.vsp). The options come straight from https://www.openlinksw.com/sparql (data-sparql-endpoint); the skin's js/try-lite.js drives the modal. Without script, the button above is a link to the generator's form.

Documentation entries open in a new tab so the Virtuoso page stays put (user, 2026-11-02). One entry per documentation root in /DAV/docs2/vos/ (vector-index, fuzzy-search, gql, graph-analytics). Vector Index has its own pages on this site; the other three are single-page apps served from WebDAV by rewrite rules on the live host (live-20261031-flip/24-docs-rules-www.sql). The trailing slash matters: the app loads its pages relative to the address, so without it nothing loads.

What the animation shows **Disparate data spaces, one harmonized view.** Databases, filesystems, APIs and knowledge bases, each in its own shape: its own format, schema and protocol. **Ontologies for Context.** Terms such as schema:Person tell Virtuoso what each record means. **RDF Views for Virtual Graphs.** Each source becomes a Virtual Graph: the data stays in place. **Hyperlink identifiers join the same entity.** Records from different sources become one connected knowledge graph. **SQL, SPARQL, GQL and GraphQL over the same Knowledge Graph.** One graph, four ways in; the answer joins every data space. **Harmonized: one knowledge graph, shared meaning.** Ontologies give context, Virtual Graphs keep data in place, hyperlinks connect it. Data Stays Put

"Why Virtuoso?", ported from production (virtuoso.openlinksw.com; static markup there too, website-matrix/virtuoso/live/index.html, section "Introduction"). The three headings and their sentences are production's, verbatim; the lede is production's FAQ ("It is cross-platform, high-performance, scalable, and secure", virtuoso-faq-top-questions.ttl). The points under each are feature names from production's own data: the feature graph behind the edition matrix below (virtuoso-features-matrix.ttl) and the per-plan comparison on production's /pricing/ (Replication Clustering, Column-Wise Storage). The pills name the same features. Four of them are Commercial-only in that matrix (high availability cluster via replication, attribute-based access controls, encryption at rest, RDF Views over external data sources), hence the note under the cards.

Why Virtuoso

## Why Virtuoso?

Virtuoso is cross-platform, high-performance, scalable, and secure.

Vectored · Column Store

### High Performance

Experience unparalleled speed and efficiency in data processing and queries.

- Vectored execution
- Column-wise data storage, with data compression
- Parallelized SQL query execution
- Intelligent query optimization

SQL · NoSQL · Linked Data

### Universal Connectivity

Connect and integrate diverse data sources including SQL, NoSQL, and Linked Data.

- Open standards: HTTP, ODBC, JDBC, SQL, SPARQL, GraphQL
- Linked Data Views over native SQL and external data sources
- Web services to RDF Linked Data

Replication · ABAC

### Scalable & Secure

Built for enterprise-grade scalability and robust security for your critical data.

- High-availability clustering via replication
- Network-based query parallelization
- Distributed transactions with two-phase commit
- Attribute-based access controls and encryption at rest

Replication clustering, attribute-based access controls, encryption at rest and RDF Views over external sources are Commercial Edition features; see the [edition comparison matrix](#edition-matrix).

Native to the server, not bolted on

## One engine, five capabilities converged

Data Spaces management isn't a feature Virtuoso added on top of a database. A multi-model DBMS, a knowledge base, an HTTP application server, a document/file server, and a data-virtualization layer have shared one transaction manager, one security model, and one query engine since day one — not five products glued together at the API.

virtuoso-harmonization-animation:start

virtuoso-harmonization-animation:end

RDBMS

### Multi-Model DBMS

Relational tables, property graphs, and document collections in one transactional engine — one backup, one security model, no sync job keeping them consistent.

RDF · SPARQL

### Knowledge Base / Graph

A native RDF quad store with SPARQL 1.1, built-in inference, and full-text search — not a triple store bolted on beside the database.

VSP · REST · SOAP

### HTTP Application Server

An integrated web and application server runs directly against the data engine — pages, REST endpoints, and SOAP services with no separate app-server tier to deploy or patch.

WebDAV

### Document / File Server

A built-in, ACL'd, versioned file and document store lives alongside your structured and graph data — queryable, not just hosted.

R2RML · RDF Views

### Data Virtualization

External SQL, NoSQL, and API sources map in as virtual tables or RDF Views — federated into the same queryable layer without copying them out of the systems that already own them.

personas:end

Proof, not promise

## What “loosely coupled” gets you in production

Every claim in the headline maps to a shipped capability — not a roadmap item.

MCP · OpenAPI · Stored Procs

### Agent Skills without a rewrite

- Agents call stored procedures, external APIs, and MCP-enabled systems as composable skills
- No new integration layer to build or maintain

ABAC · Ontology-Driven

### Agent identity, separate from yours

- Fine-grained access control constrains what an agent can see and do
- Independent of the human it's acting for

R2RML · RDF Views

### Harmonization, not migration

- Tables, graphs, files, and APIs mapped into one semantic model in place
- Nothing copied or re-platformed to be queried together

Solid · Self-Sovereign

### Session data stays user-owned

- Session state can dereference to a user's own Pod
- Agent interactions don't quietly become another system of record

How the coupling stays loose

## Three steps, no data movement

01 — Connect

Attach sources as-is

SQL, NoSQL, RDF, filesystems, and HTTP/ODBC/JDBC endpoints connect where they already live — on-prem or cloud.

02 — Harmonize

Map to one semantic layer

R2RML and RDF Views give every source a shared vocabulary, so a query can span silos without ETL.

03 — Govern & Serve

Expose to agents under ABAC

AI agents, LLMs, and apps query the harmonized layer through SQL, SPARQL, or REST — each call scoped by identity.

Built for your role

## The same server, a different entry point

Five roles, one engine underneath — each gets a different reason to care.

### Knowledge Graph Architect

Ship a knowledge graph agents can actually use — native reasoning and identity reconciliation built in, not bolted on.

SELECT ?agent ?scope WHERE { ?agent a ai:Agent ; abac:hasScope ?scope . ?scope abac:grants virt:DataSpace . }

### Data Integration Engineer

Map tables and APIs into the graph once, with R2RML, instead of maintaining N point-to-point ETL jobs per consumer.

### Governance Practitioner

Enforce ABAC rules once, centrally, and have every SQL, SPARQL, and REST caller — human or agent — obey them identically.

### Developer

Query the same harmonized layer through SQL, SPARQL, or GraphQL — pick the query language that fits the app, not the data silo.

### Enterprise Architect

Deploy on-prem, or in the cloud via the AWS and Azure marketplaces (pay-as-you-go or bring your own license) — one engine to govern instead of a sprawl of point connectors.

KEY FEATURES & BUSINESS IMPACT, production's section of that name, in the same place (before the edition matrix), from the same graph by the same query (website-matrix/virtuoso/live/index.html, features-benefits-query): each oplfeat:ProductFeature in virtuoso-features-and-benefits.ttl with its description and its oplben:hasBenefit names. Federated to www.openlinksw.com/sparql like the FAQ and matrix, which serves that graph (checked 2026-10-15: 4 features, 15 benefits). The benefits come back as one "; "-separated value, as production's GROUP_CONCAT does with "|||", so the card reads as a sentence; js/virtuoso-page.js turns it into a list.

The key features could not be loaded just now. In the meantime, see the [edition comparison matrix](#edition-matrix) or the [Virtuoso documentation](https://docs.openlinksw.com/virtuoso/).

The /virtuoso sections the production site (virtuoso.openlinksw.com) has and this page lacked, in the production order: Virtuoso Edition Comparison Matrix, Get Started in Minutes, Flexible Pricing & Deployment, Frequently Asked Questions, Resources & Support. Inserted by build_content.py in place of the single pricing section the design carried. Every offer card carries an id, its offer IRI fragment (offer-personal, offer-docker-personal, offer-aws-pago, offer-gcp-byol, ...), and every section and tab panel has one, so each can be linked directly; js/edition-tabs.js opens the tab that holds the target. PRICING is one tabbed block: "On-Premise" (the four published tiers, from rdf/virtuoso-pricing.ttl) as "On-Premise (Installers)" and, as its own tab, "On-Premise (Docker Containers)" (the same four licenses, bring your own, applied to the Docker installation), then a tab per cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). A cloud's PAGO and BYOL offers are alternatives side by side on its tab (BYOL is a cloud modality, not an on-premise one). Offers are told apart by oplsite:provider; each list is its own data source. js/edition-tabs.js does the tabs, and without script every list shows under its own heading. THE COMPARISON MATRIX is a query too, the production page's own: every ProductFeature in the feature graph (less three clustering entries it leaves out), crossed with the two products in virtuoso-features-matrix.ttl ("Virtuoso 8.x" is Commercial, the other Open Source), tick 1 where the product lists the feature. It is run through the federated endpoint with STR() on the label, since a language-tagged literal fails passing through SERVICE here (SR549). js/matrix-table.js pivots the rows into the table (open-source-less features first, then by name, six shown and the rest behind "Show More"). THE FAQ is not authored here. The query below is executed by the engine at render time, scoped to the five named graphs that hold the production FAQ (each category is the graphs it comes from), and js/faq-tabs.js turns the result into category tabs over an accordion. It is federated to www.openlinksw.com/sparql like /posts, so an unreachable endpoint renders the empty state rather than failing the page. The remote projects STR() of the question and answer: both are rdf:langString literals, and passing those through SERVICE fails here with SR549 ("Both datatype id and language id are not default"), which renders as no rows at all.
