Description
  • It's late Monday night, or early Tuesday morning. I'm in at the Sertoma Youth Ranch between Dade City and Brooksville Florida.  The rain has stopped, at last.  The motor home windows are open. I hear crickets and frogs. I can hear an occasional truck passing on the highway to the West.I left Tampa on Friday.  I had met with Brian, the property manager, and with my new renter. Brian found someone connected with the Republican National Convention to rent my condominium. I'll be away for 3 months. The Youth Ranch is equipped to supply water and electric to over 100 recreational vehicles at one time.  I'm the only camper here this week.  The park manager has asked me to watch the area while he and his wife are away next weekend.  I'm looking forward to helping him out.  It's very still.Windy is starting to feel comfortable.  It's been 3 days since we left home. At first, he hid under the couch.  He tipped over his litter box. He wouldn't eat. He peeped out, but ducked back behind the couch at even the smallest disturbance.  Now he's laying next to me.  One foot is against my hip.  We played with his toys today.  He purred when I scratch his ears.I'm starting to feel comfortable here as well.  I had only two days to pack up enough clothing and equipment for a 90 day excursion. My home was not well prepared for a renter. I've forgotten to bring some things I'd like to have.  I still have food shopping to do.  I'm unpacked. I've found places for most all that I brought. In a RV, it's important to and stay well organized. I value every drawer and cupboard.Feeling more comfortable, yes.  It takes time.  It's like moving.  Entirely new digs.  Not my old familiar bed nor bath nor kitchen. No big cozy chair, though the captain's chairs are worthy substitutes. The entire bathroom is near the same size as my shower stall at home. I may cut my hair.I've already made two trips back to Tampa. Once for the Sunday family gathering with Melinda. And again today to tell a story, then to have a tire changed on my car.  I only completed one of those tasks. Mixed with dread, I feel the adventure sense.  I think about driving North. I plan to stay here a few weeks, then find a campsite further East. I'm staying right here, right now, as best I can.
