A post that describes Virtuoso's Sponger Middleware Module. This module comprises a variety of Cartridges (Data Access Drivers or Connectors) that perform Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) operations on a variety of Web-accessible Data Sources (or Resources).
Cartridge Types include:
Extractor Cartridges -- these perform basic Extract, Transform, and Load operations on target Data Sources (just like ODBC or JDBC Drives,
but the end product produces Structured Data Represented as Knowledge Graphs rather than Tables).
Lookup-up Meta Cartridges -- these perform additional Knowledge Graph enhancement by looking-up and incorporating additional Structured Data
to the progressively enhanced local Knowledge Graph from the massive LOD Cloud and other sources (e.g., the local host DBMS instance and other
Virtuoso or SPARQL-accessible Data Sources).
Named Entity Extraction (NER) and Natural Language (NLP) Meta Cartridges -- that perform NER and NLP operations on the data transformed by Extractor Cartridges
en route final storage in the progressively enhanced local Knowledge Graph managed by a Virtuoso DBMS instance.
